I got a message from my library this afternoon: this e-book is ready for you, please do something about that. After a bit of debate, I signed it out and foolishly thought, “I'll just read a few pages to see if I'll like it.” And, yes, I read the whole thing in one sitting.
All the details were just perfect for me. Vampyres, Were shifters, complex political manoeuvring, including an arranged marriage to cement an alliance between the Vampyres and the Weres. The narrator of th ...more

It’s ye old marriage of convenience to a werewolf to save all vampire kind. Or to stop a war from breaking out between them. Or something like that. Don't ask me. I listened a few days ago and forgot to take notes. Whatever the motivation to get these people together didn't really matter to me. I wanted a fun paranormal romance and I found one.
I loved the heroine whose name is Misery which is good for a laugh or three. Her thoughts were hilarious. She's not a big fan of marriage to the alpha wol ...more

Buddy Read this with the wonderful Wanda, for all our thoughts, quotes, and comments: Bride buddy read
Thought Misery had a bit of an Ilona Andrews heroine vibe, which made me wish for more than one pov (Misery's) so that I could get more depth on some of the plot threads and character emotions.
Some surprises and steamy scenes, and I would definitely jump on board again if Owen every gets his own book.

I am over vampires and werewolves. This did nothing for me. I grabbed it four times the past few months and just felt zero urge to go on. Also the main character's name is freaking Misery. I was over it then. ...more

Sometimes paranormal cracks me up. I enjoyed this the way I enjoy ali Hazelwood combined with the way I enjoy fated mates, which is to say that's a mood Thing.
What I do find hilarious is the way people try to write vampire biology - like she couldn't produce tears but did not lack lubrication in other areas, there were other world building inconsistencies which is fine--it was fun and low investment ...more

This got me out of a reading slump after many many months. I DEVOURED this book in one night - I absolutely loved it. My only nitpick is that the resolution/3rd act felt a little weak and rushed, and the 3rd act breakup felt like it came out of nowhere (I am a fan of 3rd act breakups, so I'm only complaining about the way it was executed). But that's okay! I am just so happy to enjoy reading again. There is something about Ali Hazelwood's writing style that really connects with me... I love it.

3.5 stars
I really liked the idea of this book. The only reason why I didn’t give it a higher rating is because of all the sex. Like come on. I personally don’t need to read so much werewolf/vampire smut.
But the whole mate part I really loved! I also loved the plot with the best friend and the little sister. So a good 3.5 stars from me
