This book was ok but I just wasn't overly entertained by it. I also didn't feel the characters. The protagonist, Claire, was likeable enough but I just didn't come to like her as a reader should come to like or at least have compassion for the main character. Even the main love interest Jamie, I didn't love. A reader should love the main love interest or at least be very entertained by them. The biggest mystery for me is why this book was in the literature section rather than the romance section and why it had such an innocuous cover rather than sporting a be-kilted studmuffin clenching a scantily-clad wench. Don't get me wrong, bodice-rippers are one of my favorite guilty pleasures and this is a pretty good one, with time-travel, a handsome rogue in a kilt, lots of boinking, and some plot elements that are rather unusual in romance novels (no spoilers). Okay, don't hate me, but this book wasn't all that amazing. It was good, but not stellar. For an 850 page book, the pace moved pretty well, and the story was good, but the book just didn't grip me, make me stay up all night reading, etc. I blame Jamie. He seemed like a whiner, and I got tired of hearing about how much he got beat up. I mean, this is a Scottish clansman. Man up already! I will continue with the series though.
