Fiind primul roman din seria Cultura, e un roman de început foarte bun. Multe sugestii privind universul, conflictul dintre civilizația Culturii și cea a jihadiștilor idirani. Povestea bine construită, episod cu episod. Interludiile despre oamenii-strategi care gândesc/analizează probabilitățile viitorului f interesante.

I'd rate this as 3.5 stars if I could.
This was a good read which I enjoyed overall but there were bits that didn't hold my attention. I've read one other book by Iain Banks (not sci-fi) and I had the same experience with that. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the book, it just means that it takes longer to read as it doesn't motivate me to keep reading.
Having said all of the above, the action at the end kept me on the edge of my seat, there were so many option that might have happening, but what ...more

Couldn't finish it. The plot was both boring and confusing and I couldn't care less about the characters. What a mess.

Excellent space opera in an interesting universe. I’m excited to read more of the Culture series.
