Needed a break from all the dark stuff I've been reading and this was it. Ready Player One is a fun story full of fan service for all the geeks out there. Video gaming skills not required, a bonus for the likes of me. Will Wheaton was the PERFECT narrator. Would recommend to readers in high school or older; however, old geezers like me probably get more of the pop culture references than the younger set. Can't wait to see the movie in 2018.

Oh, my love for this book goes so deep. The fact that is a dystopian society, in which VR (virtual reality) is common and a way most people live their lives, since this real world sucks, is what drew me in. The fact that it is about pop culture in the 80s and video games from the 80s is what kept me hooked. Ernest Cline's writing is so fantastic, it flows so well, I read almost half of this book in just one sitting. I was eager to find out what was next. If I was reading before bed and stopped b

In the year 2045 society is hung up on searching for James Halliday’s egg in the Oasis, an online virtual reality world created by Halliday, in order to inherit the massive amount of money he left after his death. The interest in Halliday and his treasure hunt have spurred a huge interest in 1980’s culture to the point where a large portion of society is obsessed with all things 80’s. The main character, Wade is a huge Halliday fan and has been searching for the egg for the past five years. One

This was a really quick read and an enjoyable one. While it is set in the near future, almost all of the cultural references are based around the 1980's, since that was the time period in which the instigator of the 'game' came of age. Since that is the same time period in which I myself was a teen, this made it particularly suitable for my tastes. The idea of the story is fun and it is executed well, if perhaps with a bit too much exposition and a deus ex machina or two. I know my kids will lov

Intriguing dystopian/video game YA sci-fi. I thinking video game novels are going to get their own genre. I got a lot of the game references but hardly any of the music references. This book is a treasure trove of nostalgia for the 80's. Interesting idea to mix modern interests (MMO games) with parents remembering.
