What Members Thought

Quite an interesting, if morbid, read once you get used to 'nadsat' - the youth lingo. Nadsat is the russian suffix for 'teen', and most of the lingo is based on russian words. I found the book in some ways more confronting than Kubricks movie (the two young girls) and in some ways less (the lingo disguised the brutality which Kubricks medium makes evident). The familiarity of the narration is very well executed, and is another means of disguising the horrific acts committed.

Ugh. This book is very hard to read for a non-native speaker. I tried, but although I’m multilingual and speak majority of languages author used to ‘invent’ his slang, it didn’t work for me. The words are butchered and distorted and distract from the story.
I’m still mildly puzzled why the milk was so important in the beginning of the story, but not enough to continue reading.
If I wish to read book with invented language, there’s Ulysses.
