Why did I wait so long to read this book? It was an amazing parable, a quick read, and great reminder of the perils of dogma and the continuing decay of society. Written in 1946, it clearly was based upon the USSR and the Stalin/Trotsky split. You could have stayed at that level and read it as a fun re-telling of that, but digging deeper there was so much more to be had. Short and sweet: This reads fast. I remember finishing it in middle school (?) the same day it was assigned...I think I read it every period and then finished on the bus ride home. Go read it. It won't take long and is certainly worth taking the time for it.
