This is one of those books that everyone has read and is spoken a lot about. One of the main reasons why I liked this book was that it was very thought provoking. I would say more than the story, I loved the way Orwell has tried to put across a nice social message. It was very disturbing, no doubt. I read it several years ago. As someone from a (at least formerly) communist country I was really impressed by its interesting & rather accurate depiction of brainwashing. There's an interesting blog post on this & Brave New World: http://chiusse.wordpress.com/2013/01/... I think it's especially relevant to self-identified western leftists today as a reminder that progressive movements & causes can be, and often have been hijacked by chauvinism & authoritarianism.

I don't know what to say. I just couldn't get too into it. So much time was spent inside his mind and describing the scenery and attitudes that I couldn't really follow the story too well. It just didn't inspire me to want to read more. People give this book such praise, but I just didn't get it. I wasn't attached to the characters, I.didn't really care about their development. I mean, it describes a horrible world, but I didn't really get a good feeling of what it would feel like living there.
