What Members Thought
For the longest time I was going to give this just three and a half stars. As well written and ingeniously constructed as it is, it wasn't compelling to me. It took me ages to wade through it. The last third became more compelling as Ari grew up, but the ending felt cut off and left me dangling.

Personally I found the first few chapters a bit boring in my first read, but things become more interesting as Ari II grows up, and when finished I found myself love and hate all the main characters. It's interesting to see how the "Union" envisioned by Cherryh is so radically different yet eerily similar to our society.
