What Members Thought

Judging by most people's star ratings, they either loved or hated Speaker for the Dead. I'm one of the few it seems who thought it a very good book with an intriguing scenario and interesting personal dilemmas, but felt it nevertheless fell shy of great on a number of points, not completely unrelated to it's brilliant predecessor Ender's Game.

I really like it when science fiction talks more about humanity than it does about abstract beings somewhere in the future. I was reading this during the Boston bombings and I could not stop myself thinking how many people out there view the terrorists as animals not worthy of compassion, and how many know that they are a part of humanity just like everyone else; and how each person justifies their thoughts to themselves to support their beliefs.
