First half of this book was quite good, but the second half was not. Once arriving at the Ringworld, it's like the characters ran out of story... 2nd half was just trudging across the Ringworld, yes occassionally getting in a tight spot or seeing something interesting, but mostly to no great end.

The premise of this novel sounded so interesting and the initial development of the alien species seemed promising, but so many opportunities for worldbuilding were dismissed. There was no real plot, and the characters were one-dimensional and extremely unlikeable. Half of the dialogue was indulgent, dry debate about physics — I’m happy to read pages of mechanical descriptions by Kim Stanley Robinson or Andy Weir, but this just felt like the author was trying to show off.
