Gosh, what a great book! This is a fantasy novel for people who aren't doing Disney dragons any more. And if you have ever felt that the works of Charles Dickens could be improved by the addition of cannibalism, winged flight, and buried treasure, then this is the book for you!

If Anne McCaffrey were in a polyamorous relationship with the author of BEOWULF and Anthony Trollope, this novel would be the result of that union.

DNF@13% for now. It looks like Jo Walton’s fiction isn’t for me. There is nothing wrong with this book and the premise with dragons is interesting. But I don’t feel compelled enough to pick it up, once I have kept it down. Might pick it up some other time. This book reads like a Jane Austen’s book, which is why I didn’t like it I guess. I never liked any book by Jane Austen.

I don't think this novel was good as it could have been. The story dragged in the first half, but it got better in the second. I'm not quite sure why. ...more
