The plot of Red Mars lost my interest about halfway through. Why do I still give it four stars? That's a good question. What won this book its stars was its exploration of the science behind terraforming Mars, which was beyond interesting. Mr. Robinson had definitely done some serious research to prepare for this book, and it adds a level of depth to this book that is hard to explain. This is the book to read about Mars! Although the trilogy gets increasingly more fantastic, it starts off realistically enough, and the plot raises some very inspiring thoughts and ideas about what it will mean when man finally colonizes another planet. A must-read for sci-fi lovers and anyone interested in the sciences involved in space travel. All the facts are well researched by the auther. Sadly the series is also quite packed with Cold War prejudice and nationalistic stereotyping of people

I love how Kim Stanley Robinson always researches things so well. I feel as if this is almost exactly how a Mars settlement would form.
