What Members Thought
Read this when I was about 16 and studying Russian A level, so Alex's lingo was right up my street. Even at that young age, though, I thought the behaviourist treatment Alex received and the damp squib of an ending undermined the whole story. As a teenager, it was the cheap thrill of accessing the supposedly taboo that provided the attraction of this novel. In retrospect, it's a lightweight book with a surprisingly superficial sociological veneer, carelessly put together.
