It’s been several years since I last read 1984, and I’m pleased to see I still find it the standard for the dystopian genre. Orwell’s understanding of global economic and political forces is practically unmatched by any other author of fiction, and his ability to translate this theory into a thoroughly compelling and readable novel is impressive. The result is a terrifying examination of the desire for power and the means by which it is secured.
