This book can't be recommended enough. This story actually had me holding my breath a few times because of the suspense. There aren't enough stars to click on to rate this thing. From the beginning this book doesn't hold back at all and takes the reader on a trip through some of their worst fears. Readers should be warned that they will have blood shot eyes and might get nightmares from this book. Finally, this book so badly needs to be adapted to film. My hopes are someone along the lines of Sa

My name is Mortimer Moorecook. I’m a predator, or sorts. I made my fortune in the 80’s when it was not only acceptable, but stylish, to rip off those less aware of the consequences of finance. Capitalism is a game, and I knew how to win that game better than Bill Gates himself. Unfortunately, balance sheets and income statements don’t guarantee long-term health, and so, like Goliath, I found myself knocked on my ass by the unexpected stone called cancer. I was wasting away in my mansion, accompa

Draculas - Konrath, Crouch, Wilson, Strand
I was super lucky to get a copy of the up and coming novel Draculas. It is a novel that four authors collaborated on and it's about a terminal old man who purchases the head of a Dracula. Everything goes down hill from there. Shanna, was hired by Mortimer to study the head that he purchased. Jenny was the hospice nurse who he hired to watch over him. After Ol' Morty does something unthinkable they both accompany him to the hospital. Once there all hell b ...more

Interesting experiment. The writing styles of the skilled authors meshed seamlessly and the writing was beautiful. However, the lack of a central character made it one of those books that is great while you are reading it, but whenever you set it down there is no real motivation to pick it back up...unless of course your reading preferences are gory massacres.

It was a good concept, but it too many corners that people went around and found multiple draculas. After awhile, I started skipping pages because I did want to read any more about overwhelming odds. Okay, I started with the bad, which is never good. The story was well-written and I did enjoy the story. However, the characters were confusing to me. I think there were too many male heroes and I was getting confused as to who was who. The same with the women. There were a number of female heroes i

This book hooks you in and really gets you involved in the action that Mortimer starts. It goes from bad to worse and leaves you wanting more. This has everything a good horror novel should, and with the humor it reads more like a movie. The details really bring the words to life.
While I mostly skimmed the gore, I really paid attention to feelings, emotions, and human interaction. When everything goes wrong, even the most unreliable people become heroes and pull through. Old relationships refor ...more
