Some stories are good, some are odd, and more than a couple are complete and utter unreadable garbage. They were obviously written to upset a prudish 1970s American society, but the content is dated now. As Ellison points out in the final intro (each story is preceded by brief author bios and intros written by the editor), the volume contains 60,000 words of introduction — a novella-length of intro, some of which is more interesting than the stories they introduce.
