One of my very favorite books. Just read it for the fourth time (first time in english), and it never fails to grab me and make me finish it as soon as possible. Again Dick deals with reality vs perception, authenticity and reference points, in what was -at its time- very, very original and provocative.

And as I expected it would turn out to be like when I read PKD's Ubik: their first 200 something page go as usual mysteries while there are only 50 something page left on your right hand make you wonder how the stories are going to unfold. if you start the book being skeptical, it spurs up trillion possibilities in your head. (seriously, i've gone to intergalactic conspiracy! yeah..that far) finally it ends like Eliot puts it 'not with a bang but a whimper'. if you expect a dashing excitement th

There is much to be lauded about this novel; Dick aims to tackle a variety of complex subjects as they are integrated into a noir mystery.
These include his classic topics like the use of psychoactive/psychedelic drugs and their distortion of reality, and a futuristic dystopia being runned like an Orwellian police state.
Yet, these things being mentioned are not explored too much, as they are merely used as a backdrop. For better or for worse, this is the choice Dick made.

One of my favorite Dick works. A dystopian tour de force, though if I recall correctly the ending was not perfect.
