Dick's dense but very worthwhile masterpiece which is the culmination of his epiphanies/ breakdown of 2-3 1974, a theme that obsessed him for the remainder of his life. Not only is this a breathtaking consideration of Gnosticism in the modern world, it is a response to the age-old situation in which meaning emerges from background in a highly personalized way for those receptive to it (and occasionally not so). Having immersed myself in his writings about the 2-3 1974 experiences, I regard Dick

Well, I don't really know where to start in terms of a review for this book. But I can definitely attest to this being one of the most challenging pieces of literature out there. At least of the post-modern era. I would also have to note this as being one of the most complex reads, not to say it doesn't make sense, but mainly of the intricacy of its design.

VALIS is definitely a mouth-full and at times rather confusing, but if you have an interest/base of knowledge with regard to the ontological aspects of the universe, and/or if you enjoy Philip K. Dick then I still recommend this book. There were certainly times when I found that I could not put it down.

i'm not sure i would even consider this book fiction and you can read it on a number of levels. i think it pretty much documents pkd's descent into mental illness and his attempts to make literary sense of it.

A perfect mix of metaphysics, schizophernia, obsession, confusion and pulp. Finding out within the first few pages that the two main characters are the same person set the tone for this examination in man's search for meaning and the continued confusing relationship between God and man. One of the few books I've read more than once.

It's not easy to take a crazy person's recollections at face value. It's also difficult to stop reading. Fascinating.
