This is the first in the Brother Cadfael mysteries.
When a Welsh saint, St. Winifred, appears to have cured a Shrewesbury Abbey Brother of fits, the prior takes it as a sign that St. Winifred's bones should be removed from the Welsh village where they've lain peacefully, yet seemingly neglected, and brought to Shrewsbury Abbey to be honored and venerated, and to the glory of the abbey, and to the personal glory of the prior.

One of my favorite books. The first I read by Ellis Peters, which led to her becoming one of my favorite authors. I think of her on par with Dorothy Sayers.
The first of the incomparable Brother Cadfael books; to my mind the best. Full of humor as well as Brother Cadfael's insightful musings. Spot on characterization and depth of understanding of characters.
This book made me fall in love with brother Cadfael and Ellis Peters, and led me to purchase all 21 of this series, all of her Inspector Fels ...more
