When I first started on goodreads, I gave lots of my books 5 stars, but I'm a bit of a harder grader now. The word "amazing" is what did it to me. How many books have I read that are truly "amazing"? Not many.

I really, really enjoyed The Ten-Year Nap. It was a great classic novel, full of lots of background and character development--not only of the four main women in the story, but also of their parents! I liked the way Wolitzer explored the internal battles and decision-making processes women

This book is loaded with relationships, one of my favorite things to read about in novels. The lives and friendship of four women are revealed in their everyday moments and converstions. The women all happen to be stay-at-home moms. The conversations among them, their children and husbands are very true-to-life. I remember a husband-wife discussion about batteries. I liked this novel because it reminds me of talking to my friends about ordinary things.

I keep picking this up, putting it down, reading in spurts. I really want to continue because the themes are important to me. The prose is so beautiful, each sentence so well-crafted; but the storyline thus far is painfully boring--I suspect it's intentionally so. Argh. I shall persevere. ...more
