"The Help" sucked me in as soon as I started reading it; I found myself distracted from my homework and losing sleep, because I could not bear to put the book down. I would tell myself, "I'll just finish this chapter, and then I'll get back to work," or "I'll only read one chapter, and then I'll go to bed," but I was never able to read just one chapter, or even two. I read "The Help" in chunks, only putting it down when I knew I would fail a test if I let myself keep reading instead of studying.

Something about a young white woman writing about civil rights from a first person perspective made me very hesitant to read this book. However it was so popular my curiosity got the better of me and I’m glad. This book was very intriguing and the plot and subject matter amazed me. I was glued and finished this quickly. The characters are very stereotypical which was annoying and there was a bit of a soap opera feeling towards the end, but overall this book was a fun read. I would recommend it.

This was the best book I'd read in quite awhile. I love southern lit!
