I’m so glad I didn’t abandon Randy “I don’t give a shit” Jansen after SPECIAL DELIVERY because he redeemed himself, and then some, in DOUBLE BLIND!!! Sometimes you’ve got to dig really, really deep to find the admirable qualities in a loudmouth smartass like Randy, but believe it or not, they’re there. He may appear like a jerk who only cares about his own self-serving needs (especially when it comes to sex), but Randy is really someone with a big heart who is fiercely loyal and desperately lone I’m so glad I didn’t abandon Randy “I don’t give a shit” Jansen after SPECIAL DELIVERY because he redeemed himself, and then some, in DOUBLE BLIND!!! Sometimes you’ve got to dig really, really deep to find the admirable qualities in a loudmouth smartass like Randy, but believe it or not, they’re there. He may appear like a jerk who only cares about his own self-serving needs (especially when it comes to sex), but Randy is really someone with a big heart who is fiercely loyal and desperately lonely (although you won’t get him to admit to any of that, of course).

Ethan was an interesting mix of ups and downs as far as characters go. One minute he could seem like the most confident business executive in all of Vegas, and the next he could be breaking down or scarily unresponsive. At other times, he seemed to take things in stride that might have squicked out another person. He was very complex and infinitely interesting.

I was excited when Sam and Mitch made an appearance in this book, and absolutely thrilled that they were very prominent in the storyline – especially Sam. I adore Sam! I honestly think it’s Sam who deserves the credit for bringing out the best in all of the other characters and he is the one that makes them cohesive as a “team” – LOL!

Heidi’s writing is truly brilliant! While the storyline wasn’t what I would call totally original, it was presented in such a way that it felt very fresh. The writing style made for very vivid images in my mind. I had no trouble imagining myself right on the strip or downtown in Vegas as this story progressed. Additionally, I found myself reflecting after a particular scene or conversation and thinking, huh, how the heck did she do that? How did she manage to completely turn around what I expected my reaction would be? An example of this was Heidi’s ability to take a pretty kinky relationship between Mitch, Sam and Randy and make it come across as emotional and meaningful even with the addition of Ethan in the mix vs. just plain old kinky (don’t get me wrong, there’s still plenty of down and dirty to turn your crank, but kinda classy to boot)!!! Not only was I entertained while reading (some of Randy’s snarky dialogue was classic), but also educated in the fine art of poker (look out my fellow card players – I’m feeling much more confident in my abilities after this book:) – bonus!

So, for a wonderfully long and entertaining story, for wringing out emotions that ranged between snorting laughter and misty eyes, for my mini poker lesson, for a very satisfying way to bring about a happy end, and most of all, for making me love that smartass Randy – I give you 5 shining stars!!! I can guarantee there will be much more Heidi Cullinan in my future:)
