What Members Thought

Warning this book may cause whiplash from the crazy twists and turns.
This is a very hard book to review without spoilers because you must experience it for yourself. So I am going to try to give you some thoughts without any spoilers…
It took me a little while to get into this book because the two characters are not very likable, it is told in very well done alternating narratives giving you a background on both of them. Another warning these characters don’t get any more likeable, but once this ...more

This book is such a wild ride into the minds of a couple who may or may not be meant for each other. While they both are flawed, Gillian Flynn tkes you on such a journey with them, that your opinion of them changes as fast as you read (or listen). Starting out Nick appears to be the bad guy, while his wife Amy is all goodness. By the end, Nick may be the good guy although he has done some reprehensible things. With this couple it is a matter of degrees. These characters will linger for a long ti

This book was highly entertaining, but not without substance. Funny how I sometimes expect those two things to be mutually exclusive. This book explores the danger of mob tendencies as experienced today, through media, social and otherwise. It made me look at public opinion and how it's so carefully constructed by the media; how our world of free information is so taken for granted that often we're only ingesting a fraction of the information available. We make up our minds based on a few news s

Riveting! I've heard great things about Gillian Flynn's books, but this was the first one I've had a chance to read, thanks to a generous giveaway by Read it Forward! I love crime books, and this went beyond the usual thriller. The story is told from two perspectives, alternating between the husband's and wife's narratives--and sometimes diary entries as well. The plot details a disappearance of a beautiful wife on the occasion of their 5th anniversary, and the reader is along for the ride as th

Calling the sister Go made for some confusing sentences and pulled me out of the story to say, "wait, what?" Even though I was very bothered by the fact that the sister of the husband was called Go, it didn't overshadow the awesomeness that is this book.
This is definitely a psychological thriller - one that I just could not put down. There truly are a lot of twists and turns that I could not see coming. Highly recommended if you're looking for a bone chilling book to read this summer! Just don't ...more

Hmmm... not much to say without ruining the book. A woman goes missing and her husband becomes the prime suspect, then the twists and turns begin. The story line is so smart that I had to keep reading, but I didn't like the characters and I think the author took things over the edge of believability by the end of the book. Even though some of the language made me cringe, I still appreciated the book for its' psychotic brilliance.

I'm not a thriller/suspense reader, so that part of the story left me flat. That's more a reflection on me as a reader than the book.
I loved the social commentary on what makes a "girl" good and likeable. The social pressure that Amy felt to be Amazing Amy made her the twisted nutcase she was. And made her the girl that Nick couldn't resist. I was a little disappointed in the direction her parent's storyline took. I think that was a rich vein that was never opened.
Still, a great read. Really f ...more

WOW! I stayed up until after two this morning to finish, even though I knew I had to get up at 6:30 this morning to go on a 6 hour road trip. Gillian Flynn's latest, Gone Girl, is just THAT good.
"Amazing" Amy and her husband Nick have a wonderful marriage, or so it seems. But when Amy disappears, seemingly through foul play, on their fifth wedding anniversary, readers get a behind the scenes look into their courtship and marriage.

What a creepy, creepy book but I couldn't put it down after I got about halfway through it!

Twisted and kept you turning the pages. I really liked it because you really hate the characters (if that makes any sense). But I agree with Carrie I didn't like the end - I could have thought of at least two really twisted ways to finish the book.
