Shelves: reviewed, audiobook, romance, 2024

I went into The Duke and I expecting a story as engaging as the first one in Netflix's Bridgerton series so that's probably why I was a little disappointed. On the plus side this had the same fake date romance trope going on, always a favorite although it wasn't as involved as Netflix's, and the audiobook narration was well done. But on the negative side there was a manipulative act near the end that would be downright creepy if the genders of the two were reversed. The second epilogue contains ...more

I've read the book after I finished watching the series, so it was kind of boring for me. I wanted to put 3 stars since the development of the characters here made more view the story from a different angle. BUT that was before I stumbled upon the chapter of marital rape that traumatized me. The book portrayed Daphne as a wicked, malicious woman, doing whatever it takes to please herself- despite knowing she might be hurting others.
