I've wanted to reread this book for a while. When I read this in high school I was not altogether impressed with American literature in general. I was reading Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, all of Jane Austen, and Shakespeare for fun. Books set in America, like The Sea of Grass (shudder), just didn't appeal to me. I don't think I gave The Great Gatsby a fair try. It was a school assignment, full of unlikable characters and obvious symbolism, with the last couple of paragraphs touching me the most

Decided to reread this. The last time was in 11th grade, I think. Definitely enjoyed it more this time since it wasn't homework! Still a great classic. Peaked my interest in reading more about the culture and history of that time period.

Third time I've read this book. Like it more and more each time. Forgot how tragic it was. Maybe I'll read it again 10 years from now. Lots to discuss at book club.
