Truth be told, I struggled to get “into” this novel in the very beginning. I think one of the most jarring things for me was that it’s told from Ethan Wate’s point of view, instead of Lena’s, and I wasn’t expecting that based on the synopsis. As the synopsis begins with Lena, and the story is really about Lena, I thought it’d be her point of view. Good book! I'm excited for the movie!
But, I am kind of confused about the ending.. And some other parts.
I felt like, for as long as the book was, we could have at least answered a few more questions. But, I'm glad all the books in the series are out, haha, so I don't have to wait to read the rest!
Though, I do hope Lena is less of a cry-baby in the next few books. I mean, I understand there's the possibility she could go Dark... But if its out of her control why not live life to the fullest NOW. ...more

I thought this book would have been better. The love story has no real meaning. There were too many unanswered questions that could have been explained instead of waiting for the sequel. I don't see myself reading the sequel. Most YA novels leave the readers with a protagonist that is interesting and likable. Ethan is likable, but just too boring to keep me interesting in his fascination Lena.

I felt like this book was too long. The closer I got to the end, the more I thought "is this over yet?" instead of thinking "ohh I wonder what will happen next?" So much of what happened just felt like filler. I also felt like the ending was too open-ended. I wanted more things to be resolved in this book. Not sure if I will read the sequel as I dont really care what happens to Lena and Ethan.

It's been a long time since I've devoured a book quite this quickly. The story-telling and character development were excellent. This is a Southern Gothic novel with YA sensibilities. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
