I think one of the things I missed most about this book was the John Grisham charm. He still added his touches to the story, but you could tell it wasn't his story.
Still, I am shocked and saddened at what happened in this story. Not only the inhumane treatment that Ron suffered at the hands of the guards at McAlester, but just in general that he and Dennis sat in jail and on Death Row for almost twelve years before they were proven innocent. A little slow start, but picked up towards the middle. This book shows the scary fact that you can be convicted of anything and sometimes innocence is hard to prove. Just being a little different, having a problem, or rubbing someone the wrong way can be a death sentence. It showed the corruptibility of our legal system…scary thing is that our system one of the better ones in the current world. I preferred Grisham's fiction writings, although I felt the story contained real emotion. I really felt badly for the two main characters.

I hated this book! I love Grisham, but this book reads like a history text book, and because of that, the characters aren't made out to be someone I cared about. I only finished it because I can never put a book down, but I suffered through this one.
