I've heard mixed things about this book and I am SO glad that I picked it up. A fast-paced, exciting read! Parts of it reminded me of The Golden Compass but it has its own unique storyline. The theme reminded me of Lois Lowry's The Giver or The Messenger. What do you do if you are a good person living in a messed up world? Ness creates a real and authentic voice for Todd as he finds out the history of his settlement.

A very fast paced read with lots of action. Goor story and plot, but it felt like just when the hero gets through one thing, something else happens. Not much of a break to world build, and the characters are only partialy fleshed out.
