[close] I LOVED THIS BOOK. I am glad I followed the pestering advice to read this! Incorporates greek mythology really well. It has an exiciting plot and awesome climax! Though the 11 year main character is spectical (can he really save ********************(spoiler)? ), the book runs at a fast pace.

Wow. This book was so fast-paced. As a child I was obsessed with Greek myths so I loved reading all the mythological details. There's a lot of humor and a lot of thrilling action. Percy is so likeable and his leap from "normal" kid to hero plays out very believably. Overall, this book was exciting and a lot of fun. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. A very enjoyable 3.5-4 stars. ...more

Cool idea of having the Greek gods still in existence and demigods around us. But, I couldn't help but compare it to Harry Potter, and that's where it falls short. While the storyline is imaginative and fun, the writing leaves a bit to be desired and there needs to be more character development with the main character. He's a bit flat. ...more
