Don’t read this in a short amount of time. I did and it really was just too much to handle; the imagery and tone are fantastic, but it’s also very sad. It reminded me of Hiroshima by John Hershey (also another fantastic, powerful read.)
I would definitely recommend it, especially to people like me who weren’t born yet—this book struck me more than anything I had learned in school about it.

4.5 stars: superb writing. I was a little thrown by the lack of continuity, not realizing that this was a collection of inter-related short stories, but I recognize it was intentional by the author even if it threw me at first and at times disrupted the narrative. But I’m sure that was the intent. Regardless, a must read.
