It's been a long time since I've read any Rick Riordan and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. To me, the Egyptian mythology was interesting and felt fresher than his use of Greek mythology in Percy Jackson. Carter and Sadie Kane are such opposites and Riordan created clear, unique voices for each narrator. This latest series should appeal to both boys and girls. Rick Riordan truly creates an awesome new world with the Kane Chronicles! It was sad when Percy Jackson ended since I love mythology. You wouldn't think that he could come up with new scenarios with a different group of mythological gods, but he did it again! This is definitely a must read if you are a history/mythology buff!

I loved how Riordan started and ended this book. The 'transcript of an audio recording' was definitely a literary device that I have never seen used before. At some points, it really bothered me (mostly when Sadie would jump into Carter's chapters) but overall it was neat. The author's notes make me smile. I have to admit that I wasn't as into this book as the Percy Jackson series but it was still a very interesting read and I can't wait to go get the next one in the series!
