I wasn't sure how to feel about this book for the first half or so, but I realized that's also how I felt when I picked up the first of the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" series. It was slow to grab me, but the characters and plot, connecting with the previous series', proved to be engaging as it went on, with the same elements of comic relief as the Olympian series that are indicative of Riordan's style.
