[close] I loved this book. It is my favorite kind of story. A mystery wrapped in a girl's quest to understand identity, all while grappling with some kind of life-altering event. Fabulous. I also loved the narration, it made the characters feel so real. Great story.

The Girl Who Fell from the Sky is a hard hitting debut novel that explores several tough subjects including race, substance abuse and domestic violence. Rachel is eleven years old and recovering from a horrible tragedy when the book opens. The book then slowly unveils exactly what happened the day of the tragedy. A quick audiobook that I mostly enjoyed. While it's an adult novel, the language and main character make it a reasonable high school YA read as well. There is some sex, drinking, and minor drug use, but nothing that you won't already find in YA. The ending doesn't really tie up all the plot points but it's a realistic and appropriate close to the story. ...more
