From the very beginning of the book you are pulled in to the complicated and intriguing world of Ernest Hemingway and Hadley, his first wife. And even though you may already know how it ends, the writing is so beautiful and the details of their life together are so real that you can't stop reading. This book made me want to read more about the true history of this time and also of the characters in the novel. Couldn't decide if I didn't like the book itself or the story. I got through it because my book club read it, but it kind of felt about it the way I felt about Hemingway in high school. Not particularly exciting and then makes you feel kind of depressed at the end.

Hadley's perspective is outstanding. It was easy to understand her thoughts and frustrations and while I thought at some point I would be so mad at her for just "taking it," really all I felt was her sadness and confusion. Ernest Hemingway, you are a complete ass.

I enjoyed the easy flow of the narrative. It's just too bad being young and vibrant and full of promise had to end with such pain.
