Not sure how I missed this gem when it was first published in 1981 but I stumbled upon it recently because I read Voigt's book Mister Max. As a native Marylander who was born and raised on the state's Eastern Shore this book was near and dear to my heart. There is something so wonderful about reading a story that takes place in your own state. excellent story about a 12 yr old girl and her 3 siblings who seek a home together after their mother abandons them in a shopping mall. their adventures and problems seem real as they try to find an aunt and then look for a grandmother in Crisfield MD. Dicey is an admirable character who has extreme determination, and keeps trying, whatever the disapointments.
