I’m still marinating on this book. I really enjoyed it overall, and especially enjoyed reading it aloud to my 10 year old. I thought the premise was disturbing and interesting and loved the interactions between Jonas and The Giver. I’m still trying to process the last scene and its meaning. May have to stew on that for awhile...

I didn't care for the writing style (it's simplistic, which works for kids' books but was too simple to cover the subject matter), the lack of exploratory depth in the subjects, or the story's conclusion. It may be a medal winner, but it's not a book I think highly of. ...more
