I hope this book is not on the YA shelf, because even though it's about teenagers, they do a lot of sex, drinking and drugs!
Take Harry Potter, and turn Hogwarts into a college or university instead of a middle to high school, and that's part I of The Magicians. A darker grittier world than HP's even at the best of times.
Then thrown in a dose of Narnia, but a Narnia which is darker and sadder than the original. Like, a Narnia for grown-ups.

2.5-3 stars: this book had a lot of potential. It is very reminiscent of Narnia and the Harry Potter series. I can get past some of the characters and how annoying I found them, but what I could not get past were all of the holes in the narrative--holy crap there were sososososososo many I'm not even sure where to start. I almost want someone to come back and clean it up so I could read it again. It really had that much potential.
