I have been a fan of Mary Monroe for a very long time. I like her sense of humor although the things the charachters go through are very unfortunate. I found this book to be a good reference for the book The Upper Room that I read years ago and am currently re-reading. This book takes you into the tragic childhood story of two friends Ruby and Othella and how their circumstances and hard choices during their pre teens lead them on a road where as a reader I was saying ,"Where is the light at the end of this tunnel, when is this story going to give these girls some happiness. I find that the love these friends have for each other and how they support each other as remarkable for charachters so young. I reccomend this book if you can still read thru the blur of your tears.
