I put off reading this for a very long time because I'd thought that the storyline was stupid. Honestly, the Waves are stupid. But the more I read into it, the more I realized; these aliens are actually pretty smart. They're not what you'd expect extraterrestrial visitors, but that's because the Others have actually been with humanity for God knows how long, and somehow managed to tactically devise a way to wipe out more than half of humanity, all in an attempt to repopulate their species.

I almost didn't read this book b/c I got the name of the author, Rick Yancey, mixed up with Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson series (which I disliked).
When I got that straightened out, I decided to give it a try since my daughter liked it. What I didn't know was that it's a dystopian novel, and I don't read dystopian literature (I had my fill with The Hunger Games and Divergent series and pretty much consider the rest to be derivative). I wish Goodreaads would let you give half stars as I consider The Fifth Wave to be worthy of three and a half stars rather than a solid 3 or four. While The Fifth Wave delivers on action and suspense I did not enjoy the way it was written However, before I get into my review, I need to make something known first.
