Stunning characterization. Read this book for Camille, the main character. The detached way she speaks about herself, her life and her illness(es) provide a different angle on the horrors she's experienced-- she has become so jaded from them that she faces down situations that would be emotionally crippling for others. Talk about a dysfunctional family, this one takes the cake. I originally found the book interesting, but then it became very, very dark. I like psychological thrillers but this one bothered me when I found out the details of the killings of the young girls. I liked Gone Girl much more than this one.
