This book was a weird read for me. I started it a long time ago and then it just sat on my desk for a while. I only picked it back up because I wanted to finish all my books that I was in the middle of to get them off of my goodreads's "currently-reading" list.

This book was so popular that I thought it might be helpful to get me organized (or tidied up as I heard a thousand times in the book). First, it was difficult to follow some of her suggestions such as folding shirts since I was listening to the audio version. Second, I just cannot relate to someone talking to objects and she is very serious about it. She thanks her shoes and so much more for doing a good job. I really didn't get much out of this book as I had hoped except for a lot of head shak ...more

At first glance, the method and the author seem so hokie to me. She talks a lot about whether physical things bring you joy or not. But as I kept reading I realized that we do have a lot of things as Americans that we probably don't need and that we could stand to get rid of to open up our spaces. Something about the method works for me and so I've put some of her principles into practice and it makes me feel great to remove so much stuff from our home.
