I feel this is a very generous rating. I started reading this book because I wanted to read the background of Levana. I wanted to know why she became the way she is in the lunar chronicle series with cinder, scarlet, and cress. I did get a background story, but all i got was an uber predictable story line. Perhaps it might have been that this is a prequel to the lunar chronicles, so we already know how she is going to turn out in that series. I was hoping to understand if she was different from
I feel this is a very generous rating. I started reading this book because I wanted to read the background of Levana. I wanted to know why she became the way she is in the lunar chronicle series with cinder, scarlet, and cress. I did get a background story, but all i got was an uber predictable story line. Perhaps it might have been that this is a prequel to the lunar chronicles, so we already know how she is going to turn out in that series. I was hoping to understand if she was different from the Levana we know in cinder, scarlet, and cress. My conclusion... she's exactly the same, but she is more like her sister Channary now.

I get it. Perhaps i'm giving this rating because I didn't want to accept the way Levana has always been and who I know in the lunar chronicles. She's power hungry and conniving. Partly these characteristics were promoted because she was harassed when she was a child about not beautiful and not feeling loved, which resulted in her feeling abandoned and self-conscious of her appearance. Her sister harassed her and there were many pressures from her community by her looks. For a moment I did feel for Levana because she cared about the people in her kingdom, instead of the appearances and lavish life like her sister. I, also, felt bad for her because she felt abandoned and unloved, and I feel like everyone should feel loved and feel good about themselves.

(view spoiler) I was listening to this on audio book so I couldn't skim, but if I read the physical copy I think I would have done the same thing.

3. how meyer weaves the characters into one world.

Although I did not enjoy Fairest, I still want to see what happens at the end of the Lunar Chronicles. This series has a super interesting concept and world building behind it. An addition to the audio-book had the first 3 chapter of Winter and I'm interested to see how Meyers will end the series.... or possibly surprise us. Until then. ...more
