A heart-wrenching debut that has a lot going for it. The writing is lovely and evocative. I'm not sure why it didn't love it. Usually, I'm a sap when I read books about motherhood and loss, but I didn't shed a single tear reading this novel. I did feel enormously for Isabel, Tom, Hannah and especially Lucy, but to me it all felt a little contrived. I had The Light Between Oceans on my "To Read" list when a co-worker also recommended it so I decided to move it to the top of my list. Actually, I listened to the audio version on my commute back and forth to work. In my opinion, this was a big mistake. A narrator can make or break a book and in this case, I did not like the narrator at all as he constantly dropped his voice and that, coupled with his accent, made it difficult for me.
