Breezy beach read - I'd put it at 3.5 stars. As usual, Nick Hornby finds a way to bring a female protagonist to life, tracking Sophie (once Barbara from Blackpool) through her overnight success as a comedienne on BBC in the late 1960s. Sophie struggles with making it in London, interpersonal relationships, and her burgeoning stardom - but eventually perseveres with a long, happy life and solid career as an actress.

If he'd focused a bit more on young Barbara/Sophie trying to make it, I think it would have been much more interesting.

2.5 stars. I am a fan of Nick Hornby and have enjoyed all of his previous books, but I just couldn't get into this one for some reason.
