In the Unlikely Event is among Judy Blume's best novels and a book I would count among my favorites. I listened to the audiobook edition and the narrator was top notch and she did a stellar job of capturing the personality of each individual character. I really wanted to like this one - because setting the novel against backdrop of the true story of three plane crashes in less than 60 days in Elizabeth, NJ in 1952 was fascinating. The reader is very good, btw! ...more

Difficult to keep all of the characters straight. About 1/3 of the way through, it becomes gripping.

2 stars (it was okay).

So first of all, there were just too many characters/POV's to keep track of! I eventually got a handle on them but it took a WHILE.

As another reviewer said, there were interesting characters and an interesting plot idea (the planes that keep crashing) yet somehow the book just drags.
