This is a work of fiction, however the orphan trains really did exist. This story centers around Molly, a 17 year old girl who has had a rough time going through the foster care system. She needs to do 50 service hours and winds up organizing the attic of 91 year old Vivian, who had terrible experiences with the families she was paired with after being on the orphan train. I had the privilege of attending an author event offered through my local library and hearing Christina Baker Kline discuss Orphan Train and the amount of research that went into writing this novel. Although, Orphan Train is a work of fiction the orphan trains are a part of American History that isn't often spoken about. I loved this book. The stories to the two main characters from the different generations both wards of the foster care system was so interesting. I was also fascinated by the role of orphan trains in our country's history. Very good read.
