I'm debating star rating on this. Beautifully written. Also, loved the ending. These make me want to give it 5 stars. But a few places slowed a bit for me, which might make me bump it to a 4. Either way, great book, would definitely recommend. May update with a full review at some point. ...more

I think that if you want a dark fantasy story, go watch Army of Darkness instead of reading this book.

The setting was pretty much cut and paste default generic fantasy, with the sole exception of the sexual orientation of Ringil (which was thrown in without consideration for how default culture would impact said character). The plot regarding him trying to recover his cousin from the narrative refrigerator proceeds at such a glacial pace that I got bored and wandered off.

For the most part I enjoyed this book. A gay protagonist isn't something I'm used and every time I found myself off-put to and left me wondering how secretly homophobic I am. The travelling between dimensions was pretty poorly illustrated, and overall the world building was pretty limited. This is a pretty unique book, even if I was not entirely engaged. ...more
