Phenomenal and epic in every possible sense. This feels as if it could have been written yesterday, it's so cutting-edge and ahead of it's time. Gothic space opera is my bread and butter and I wish I'd read this one years ago. Can't wait to dive into the sequels. ...more

4.5 stars.

This was fantastic. Half a star off because of the cliffhanger ending, but for readers of Sci-fi this is an absolute must read. Up there with Dune, Red Rising, Gap Cycle.

Do yourself a favour and try to go into this one blind, you’ll get a lot more out of the story. Just make sure book 2 ‘The Fall of Hyperion’ is nearby, because you’ll be desperate to read it! Highly recommended.
