4.5 stars. I really liked this one. What a great book, probably the most thoughtful and provocative science fiction novel I've read in a long, long time, and written in such a style and with such care that I wouldn't hesitate to call it a work of art. I've been trying to write this review for the last month or so - and so far I've failed dismally. That's not because I've got nothing good to say about Hyperion, far from it, but pretty much everything has already been said about it, and I can't bring anything new to the table.
But: I read much more fantasy than I do science fiction, and I'm not well-versed in either classic literature or poetry. Even so, Hyperion's symbiotic relationship with Keats and Chaucer is so well-written and so smoothly ...more

i really enjoyed the priest and father with aging backwards daughters back stories the most, think i'll maybe judge this book differently after reading the follow up
