For my first ever science fiction reading experience, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Leviathan Wakes. I wasn’t sure what to expect – 600 pages of spaceships randomly flying around and making ‘peowm!’ noises? – but it certainly wasn’t a mystery story with horror elements that just happens to be set in space.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 because of Miller. Holden on the other hand I wanted to strangle.

Cynical and nihilistic enough to send Nietzsche into a week-long booze-soaked bout of depression and with somewhat bland writing, it edges it over to the 3.5/5 due to the crisp world building, solid action and cinematic orgy of body-horror that oozes out of the last hundred n' fifty or so pages. This series has also been picked up by SyFy for series. Anyway the story of An XO on an ice rig (James Holden) and a depressed down on his luck belter Detective by the name of Miller. His case to find a millionaires daughter whom as it turns out is more than anyone expects her to be. Earth and Mars are the "su ...more
